The Showdown - Great Lakes Grand Nationals is our showcase event of the season and is returning to downtown Detroit which has added multiple new hotels, casinos, and restaurants near the Cobo Center. With over 200 cheer and dance teams and 100 specialty performances at last years the 2009 event you will get to compete against the best of the best in the North in 2009. We leave nothing off limits for this event. From huge parades to 100's of giveaways. We make sure something is happening every minute of the day. Our goal is to make it hard to choose what wild crazy thing you want to do next. The Showdown will feature multiple stages with curtained stages running simultaneously including a special area just for solos/duets/trios, stunt and tumble groups. We are even bringing a full inflatable bounce zone!
From wild crazy action on the stages to tons of fun off stage, this event will be like none other you have been to.
The action does not stop with all the amazing cheerleading and dance performances where we will bring out the big show to ensure that your athletes are the stars of the event. We will get them involved in every aspect of the show. The athletes at our events not only get to participate in the games and activities but they run them. From playing Deal or No Deal TM on stage to helping us decide who wins the coaches relay races, the athletes that attend our events are part of the event every step of the way. Nothing is more exciting for parents attending our events than seeing their kids in the spotlight and we look for every opportunity to make sure they are in it as much as possible all day.

GLCC pioneered the TOP DAWG Champion store last year where National Champions could shop for the prize that they wanted to take home in recognition of their victory. Once again. all members of teams that win a National Championship title at this event will be given a National Champion Awards certificate. This certificate is worth 35 points which can be exchanged at the GLCC Champions Store to claim their prize. There are a variety of prizes that athletes can choose from using their points and they can also upgrade to higher level awards by purchasing additional points.
The theme for this event is Motown. We want your athletes, spectators, and coaches rocking out and getting onto the theme while showing amazing spirit and sportsmanship. Our TOP DAWG Mascot SPIRIT, will be looking out for the parents and teams that are Rock’N to the theme of the event. We will select at least one gym that is really showing sportsmanship and spirit at each awards session and present them with the coveted Acrylic Rock’N Spirit guitar.
GLCC in cooperation with Michigan Xtreme is conducting a book sale and donation drive at the Showdown to benefit Starfish. Starfish Family Services http://www.sfish.org/ operates13 programs to strengthen families so they can create a brighter future for children.
The agency works to prevent and intervene in family challenges early – before problems escalate – so that families stay together; children’s lives are improved; and less money is spent on prisons, public housing, juvenile detention, etc.
